Sugarcraft
Gun

 |
The
easy alternative to the known clay guns is the Sugarcraft
Gun. These guns were manufactured for the cake decorating
industry, particularly those who use gum paste. I have used
this gun (with an adapter ring I developed) with much success with
the disks. |
 |
You
DO NOT need any special pusher device to help you extrude with this
gun. The gun is small enough that the squeeze trigger allows
you to use this gun with one hand. |
 |
You
WILL NEED the adapter ring (pictured below) that we developed
in order to use our disks with this gun. If you are using, or
plan to use this gun be sure to purchase the ring or the disks WILL
NOT work. Adapter rings cost $2.00 each. |

 |
This
gun is compact and cleans up very easily. |
 |
The
drawback to the Sugarcraft gun is its bigger price. However, I
personally would have paid twice the amount for the ease and
convenience I find in this gun. We NO LONGER carry this gun in our
online store, however you can find them from online kitchen stores. |
 |
I
know you will be satisfied with this gun, just as I am. |

Sculpey,
Kemper & Darice Guns

|
For
ease in extrusion with these guns there are various clay gun pushers and
caulking type devices which were made with clay guns in mind. They
are listed below along with a links to where you can purchase the gun
and adapter of your choice.
While
each device has its Pro's and Con's, select the one that will suit your
personal needs. Just because your friend likes one method, doesn't
mean you will too. If you are a member of a clay guild, suggest
that members bring in their guns and extruding devices to
experiment. This way you can make an informed decision about which
tools you need, want or gotta have! Plus, you will know in advance
which ones may not be suited to you. This is particularly true if
you have carpel tunnel or strength problems with your hands, wrists or
arms.
 |
The
EZ SQUEEZE by Kemper is a
new clay gun adapter made specifically for use with the KEMPER brand
clay guns on the market for ease of extrusion. The cap fits
into a specially designed opening for NO SLIPPING. The
push/plunger rod is designed to go directly into the barrel of the
gun which eliminates the need for the plunger part. This
WONDERFUL NEW adapter tool can be purchased from THE
CLAY FACTORY. During testing we found that it is best to
use the KEMPER BRAND gun for which this was designed. The
Darice and Sculpey brands are configured with a slight tolerance
difference and may, or may not work. |

 |
NOTE:
If you choose this extruder (EZ
Squeeze) for use with the
disks, you must stop extruding prior to the plunger reaching the
end of the gun. We suggest marking the push/plunger rod at
the point you should stop extruding. When that mark hits the
entrance end of the barrel stop, dismantle, refill and then continue
extruding. If you do not, you will run the risk of damaging
your disk from the pressure of the rod hitting the disk. |

 |
The
WOODEN CLAY GUN PUSHER
by WEE FOLK which is two pieces
of wood with a hole and notch in the right areas for placement of
the gun. Pictured below is the wooden version that I purchased
several years ago. It works as good today as the day I
received it. This will work with any brand of the plunger type
clay guns. Wee Folk no longer sells the actual pusher, but you
can purchase the instructional plans to make your own. |

 |
NOTE:
If you choose this extruder (Wooden
Pusher) for use with the
disks, you must remember to extrude slowly. It is very
easy to just lean onto the board and force all your weight onto this
device. If you do this, you will run the risk of damaging or
blowing out the disks. |

 |
The
CAULKING GUN
adapters are available from several sources and there are also
instructions for adapting a caulking gun for use with the clay gun.
 |
Poly-Tools
offers an adapter for your
caulking gun just drop it in and start extruding. They
also offer a fantastic line of bead rollers, baking racks and
other great polymer clay tools! |

 |
NOTE:
If you choose this extruder (Caulking
Gun) for use with the
disks, you must remember to extrude slowly. Some people
have mentioned that this device can be cumbersome to change when the
barrel is empty. I personally have not tested this
device. However, those that have used it with the disks have
had success. |

For
more information on clay guns and adapters visit Polymer Clay
Central. By clicking here you will be taken directly to the Encyclopedia
section of the site which show pictures of some of the adapters
described. In addition, there are other adapters which individual
artists have developed for their own use. |
