This cane was constructed using the small square 

Darlin' Designer Disk™ from the Geometric Kit

STEP ONE

Extrude two contrasting colors. 

STEP TWO

Cut the clay into two even sections.

STEP THREE

Place one length on top of the other alternating the colors as shown.

 

STEP FOUR

Cut this length into two even sections.

STEP FIVE

Place the two sections next to each other.  Cut this length into two even sections

STEP SIX

Layer each of the sections in order to finish the alternating checkerboard pattern.  You can repeat the above process as many times as you like.
